The RF source has a resonant cavity with one wall supporting a semiconductor diode in a standard casing. The casing has a conducting disc, which excites resonance in the cavity, mounted on top of it. The disc is connected via a lead passing through one wall of the cavity to one pole of a DC voltage source. The other pole of the DC source is connected to the other electrode of the diode via earth. The resonant cavity consists of a rectangular wave-guide horn open at its wider end and closed by a short circuit at its narrower end.
