Contact lenses are disinfected and cleaned with an anti-microbial soln. contg. =0.001 M of an enediol redox system, in particular ascorbic acid (pref.), isoascorbic acid (pref.), dihydroxymaleic acid, dihydroxyfumaric acid, 2,3-dihydroxy-2-cyclopenten-1-one, or their salt or other derivs.; and =0.0001 M of a water-soluble oxidising agent, in particular an alkali metal percarbonate (pref. Na2CO4) or peroxide or H2O2. Opt., the soln. contains =0.000004 wt.% of a heavy metal salt catalyst (pref. CuSO4). Soft and hard contact lenses are cleaned without using a heated appts. There is no allergic reactions.
