Material in a silo (1) is transferred in a fluidised state through conduit (2) and rotating screens (3) to a chamber (5) of the elevator. The lower end of the elevator discharge pipe (6) is situated in chamber (5) above a nozzle (7). Air is fed from compressor through regulating and check valves (12, 13) to chamber (5), (6) and also via regulating and check valves (18, 17) to the nozzle (7). Jacks (14, 19) operate valves (13, 18) to regulate the pressure in chamber (5).
