Thermal cell comprises electrodes sepd. by a layer of fusible electrolyte contg. =1 alkali chloride. Specifically the positive electrode includes active material selected from NiCl2 and AgCl contained in a porous, electrically conducting support. The porous support is Ni when NiCl2 is used as active material and Ag when AgCl is used. It may also contain some alkali chloride electrolyte. The positive electrode is prepd. by immersing the porous support into a bath of molten alkali chloride and the corresp. metal chloride. The cell prevents a voltage output which is sensibly constant during its working life.
