PURPOSE:N'-3-(3-Trifluoromethylphenoxy)phenyl-N-methoxy-N-methylurea. USE:Selective herbicides for foliar treatment of soybean, effective for peanut, rice plants, wheat, etc., with a slight damage, substantially free from toxicity. PROCESS:To a solution of 3-(3-trifluorophenoxy)phenyl isocyanate in benzene is dropped an equimolar amount of a solution of N,O-dimethyl-hydroxylamine of formula III in benzene at room temperature. After stirring the solution for 1 hr, the solvent is distilled off to give the objective compound of formula I.
