A mono-rail drive car has two friction drive wheels (7) which can be pressed against the opposite sides of the vertical web of an I-shaped mono-rail (4) from which the car is suspended, the friction drive wheels (7) being drivable by a drive motor (10) by way of an interposed gear transmission and being mounted in mounting members movable relative to a housing (9) of the gear transmission. The mounting members, which are connected together by a traction member (13) to apply the pressing forces, are formed as pivot arms (8) which are pivotal relative to the transmission housing (9) about vertical pivot axes, whereby each friction drive wheel (7) is mounted rotatably at a spacing from the respective pivot axes, and the gear transmission includes two synchronously rotating coupling gear wheels (11) each having an axis of rotation which coincides with the pivot axis of a respective one of the pivot arms (8) and each having its teeth meshed with teeth of a gear carried on the shaft of the respective friction drive wheel (7).
