MITSUBISHI JUKOGYO KK 3 July 1975 [3 July 1974] 28150/75 Heading C5E The gasifying of finely divided coal (100-200 mesh Tyler) is carried out by a continuous process involving, according to an embodiment, passing the coal in partly gasified condition through transfer line 13 Fig. 1, into a fluidized bed of sand 1-2 wherein it is fully gasified by air and steam as fluidizing agent introduced through lines 17, 19, to produce ash and gas, the ash being taken off through line 23, conveying the residual fluidizing agent together with the gas produced into an entrainment reaction chamber 1-1 to which fresh particulate coal under 10-20 Kg./cmSP2/SP pressure and air and steam as gasifying medium are introduced through line 3 and lines 8, 9 respectively, removing the gas and the resulting partlygasified coal to a gas-solids separator 11, returning the partly gasified coal to the fluidized bed through line 13 and recovering gaseous product by a flue 12. Finely divided limestone or dolomite may be introduced into the entrainment reaction chamber to react with any hydrogen sulphide produced (desulphurization). In further embodiments, (1) part of the partially gasified coal leaving the separator 11 is returned to the entrainment reaction chamber instead of to the fluidized bed and (2) an ash separator (30, Fig. 4, not shown) with recycle facilities for the fluidizing agent is connected in circuit with the fluidized bed. The gasification of urban waste or coarse oil may be similarly carried out.
