ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSUREA new antibiotic (now called dihydromocimycin) beinga yellow, salt-forming weak acid and its non-toxic, pharmaceuticallyacceptable salts produced by the microorganism Streptomycesramocissimus or suitable mutants thereof. The antibiotic hasantibacterial properties and has been found to be effectiveagainst Treponema dysentery, one of the most common swinediseases. Dihydromocimycin may also be converted into mocimycin,which is an antibiotic which possesses interesting growth-promoting properties when added to animal feed, by a dehydrogenationagent. The dehydrogenation may be carried out with seleniumdioxide, preferably in the presence of an organic solvent.
