Abstract of the DisclosureA novel water-soluble basic glycopeptideantibiotic complex designated herein as Bu-2231 isproduced by ferimentation of a Bu-2231-producingstrainn of Streptoalloteichus hindustanus. ComplexBu-2231 and two of its major components designatedherein as Bu-2231 A and B are found to inhibit thegrowth of various Cram-posltlve and Gram-negativcand acid-fast bacteria as well as certain plantpathogens. The complex and components Bu-2231 Aand B are also0 useful in inhibiting the growth ofvarious tumors in rodents, for example, Walker ?56carcinosarcoma and Lewis Lung carcinoma.
