ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSUREFresh fruits and vegetables are stored underrefrigerated conditions for extended periods of time in a mannerwhich prevents the growth of harmful fungi, and, as well, theenvironmental atmosphere is a chemical anti-oxidant. All of theabove are achieved by maintaining the fresh produce in a storagecontainer including an artificial atmosphere composed of carbonmonoxide substantially in excess of 5% and preferably aboveabout 10%, carbon dioxide, a significant amount of oxygen, andthe remainder nitrogen.- 1 -
