1414315 Coated lenses HOYA LENS CO Ltd 5 Dec 1972 [6 Dec 1971] 56077/72 Heading B2E [Also in Division G2] An optical lens of glass or plastics material is coated by dipping, spraying or spinning with a mixture comprising 25 to 70% by weight of polyacrylic acid, 0.5 to 10% by weight of hexamethoxymethyl melamine, 0.1 to 2% by weight of γ-aminopropyl triethoxy silane, 0.01 to 0.1% of polyethylene glycol fatty acid ester and 25 to 75% by weight of, as solvent, 2-ethoxyethanol, ethyl alcohol, ethylene glycol monoethyl ether or mixtures of two or more of these, the percentages being on the weight of total mixture and subjecting the coating to a drying and hardening treatment at 50 to 150‹C to obtain a coating having a thickness of 10 to 1,000 Á. Prior to applying this coating the surface may be pre-coated by dipping, spraying or spinning with a mixture of 20 to 40% epoxy resin, 10 to 20% of a hardener therefor and 40 to 70% by weight of toluene, or a mixture comprising 1 to 5% by weight of γ-aminopropyl triethoxy silane and 95 to 99% by weight of toluene, the coating being dried and hardened at 50 to 150‹C to a thickness of 1 to 10 Á.
