The photometric analyser is for clinical laboratory use. It comprises a light source (1) such as a mercury vapour lamp, in whose optical axis are placed a hinged blocking filter (13), aperture (2), measuring cell containing the sample (3), the actual precision filter (4) and finally, the photo-electric sensor element (5). The precision filters are mounted in plug-in holders (6), the base of each filter block having an actuator pin (14). When the filter is fully located in the socket, this pin depresses a plunger (7) which in turn depresses the end of a spring loaded lever arm (8, 10). The outer end of the arm supports the hinged blocking filter (13, 15) which is then raised into position between the light source and the aperture.
