The ignition system of the prim. winding of an ignition coil in series with a switching transistor, supplied with current at the winding end. An over-voltage protective circuit has a switching component with a rated breakdown voltage, and is connected to a point between the prim. winding and transistor collector. A control transistor collector is connected to the switching transistor base, and its emitter to the switching transistor emitter. A driver transistor (15) precedes the control transistor (17) and its base is connected to the other end of the overvoltage protection circuit (10) with the switching component (13) having a stipulated breakdown voltage.
