Pipe flange forming device - uses ram and mandrel for flaring of pipe end prior to pressing operation

The device for cold forming of flange end on pipes consists of a drop forging block (1) with cylindrical bore (2) into which the pipe end (3) is inserted with loose fitting. The upper section of the block (1) the cylindrical bore (2) continues in a collar forming space (4) resulting in a circular shoulder (5) between the bore (2) and the collar forming space (4). The ram (6) used has a mandrel (7) with tapered shape (8) in the immediate vicinity of ram (6). During the downward stroke of the ram (6) the mandrel (7) enters the pipe end and the tapered part (8) flares the protruding length of the pipe (9) resulting in a tight abutment of the pipe end (9) against shoulder (5) and during the further downward movement of the ram only his part (9) is forced in a formative process into the collar-forming space (4).
