The hydrostatic bearing for large components such as the running rings on drums, hollow shafts etc., as in the main patent, has a bearing shoe (3) above a base member (2). Between them is a composite intermediate member (10) enclosing two membranes (6, 7) spaced apart. The intermediate member has a middle ring (10) with an annular space (11) inside, forming a chamber for a hydraulic medium, between the two membranes. The middle ring is connected to an upper ring (10a) and a lower ring (10c) with the membranes clamped between. A stepped part (2b) of the base, and (3b) of the shoe protrude respectively into the interior of the lower and upper rings to rest on ring shaped parts (12, 13) inside them.
