Rifle shooting range has a projector for generating a target that moves over a target area and a mechanism for moving the target in 2 directions at the same time. There is a visual display to indicate any hits open the target surface by means of a pasty, plastically deformable, coating upon a substrate. The target is moved by 2 motors. The target surface is composed of overlapping sections with a pasty coating of weather-resistant material that will not corrode the substrate. It is pref. a plastics powder mixed with plasticiser, a solvent, and some ricinus oil. Some TiO2 can also be added. The claimed arrangement has wipers at the sections of the target adapted to smooth the coating after they have been impacted by hits.
