The transmission system uses two syndromes (S1, S2) one of which is used to correct the information and the error signalling bits of the other syndromes (S2) used to reset a counter (21), so that a given count value is only achieved if no errors are indicated. A timing stage (ZST) provides a signal (ZS) at a given duration after the last detected error signalling bit of both syndromes. This duration is less than the least time required to obtain the given count value, and the signal (ZS) from the timing stage (ZST) is used to reset the counter (Z1). The timing stage (ZST) may use a second counter supplied with the same count pulses (T) as the first counter (Z1) and supplying the reset signal (ZS) for the latter when it reaches a second count value.
