Throat gas purification plant for hot blast cupola - where toxic substances are removed without discharge of gas washing water into environment

Theprocess and plant include a tower in which the gas is sprayed with fresh water for cooling and/or some dust is removed. The gas next flows into a second tower where it is sprayed with water contg. sludge, which is dried in cooling the gas, the dry sludge being removed. Cyclones are then employed to remove the major part of the dust from the gas, which is next satd. with fresh water and washed to remove toxic gases, followed by removal and neutralisation of the wash liq. Pref. the cyclones are followed by a universal venturi washer, which has an exit for purified gas and a nozzle supplying fresh water; and CaCO3 is supplied for neutralisation of the wash liq. Useful esp. for the removal of fluorine and its cpds.
