Async. linear motor with laminated core inductor - has each core lamination of frame cross-section of different height and width, larger laminations surrounding smaller ones

The motor is intended for high speed floor conveyor systems, but is suitable for various electric drives with linear, or reciprocal movement of operating members. The inductor core (2) laminations are slotted for retention of a polyphase coil. The motor contains a secondary element, in relation to which the inductor moves, having a conductive part mounted on a magnetically conductive base plate. Each core lamination is frame-shaped in cross-section, the frames having different height and width in relation to the inductor movement. Thus each lamination of greater dimensions surrounds a smaller lamination. The design avoids ineffective air gaps between the core laminations, which could inhibit the faultless operation. The preferred lamination material is steel. Polyphase coils may be of composite or divided design.
