Stabilising unsatd. chlorinated acid and ether derivs. - against decomposition by heat and catalysts, using alkali metal salts, esp. phosphate(s), fluoride(s) or carbonate(s)
Unsatd. cpds. of formulae C3HmClnCOR (I) and C3Cl4C(Cl)OR' (II) are stabilised against decomposition by heat and catalysts with acid or neutral alkali phosphates, fluorides or carbonates. In the formulae, n = 5-m; m = 0 or 1; R is Cl, OH or OR"; R' is C2H5, C3H7 and C4H9; R" is linear, branched or cycloaliphatic, opt. halogenated and/or unsatd., 1-10C alkyl, or aryl or aralkyl (6-14C in aryl) opt. substd. by alkyl or halo. Pref. up to 5% of the alkali salt is added (based on wt. of (I) and (II)). (I) and (II) are intermediates, e.g. 1-ethoxypentachlorobutadiene can be converted to squaric acid or pentachlorovinyl acetyl chloride, the latter convertible to its esters which are 'reactivators' in e.g. ethylene/alpha-olefin copolymer prodn.
