A film splicer is used for the manual splicing process and uses a transparent, self-adhesive foil with backing strips which are pulled-off in the longitudinal direction of the film. The foil is applied on both sides of the film over the joint, and has a locating slot to line up accurately in the splicing machine. The machine holds the film in the correct position for applying one part of the foil and then inverts the film to allow the foil to be folded around the film. The whole operation is simple and requires little skill.
