Comminuted or ground bark is mixed, without composting, with a nitrogenous fertiliser, opt. with the addition of soil, peat or the like. The amount of nitrogen to be added is ca 400-600mg Npsr litre of ground fresh bark, regardless of whether the nitrogeneous fertilizer is added before or after mixing the bark with peat. Inclusion of the nitrogeneous fertilizer counteracts the growth-inhibiting effect of bark, which is attributed to depletion of available nitrogen.
