The experimental chamber for simulating different atmospheric conditions operates between temperatures of 300 and -70 deg.C. An insulated space is divided into a main chamber (1) and an auxiliary chamber housing an evaporator(3) by a dividing wall(4). A fan(6) circulates air around the outside of the chambers, and past a flap(5) top and bottom. The flaps are controlled by a thermostat(9) in the main chamber and by a thermostat(7) and safety thermostat(8) for the evaporator chamber. This forms part of a safety system preventing overloading and overheating of components. The second thermostat(7) forms the main operting device for the flaps. The operating point of the safety thermostat(8) is higher than that of this thermostat (7).
