Filtration appts. for determn. of the characteristics of a suspension consisting of a liq. contg. powder and/or fibres. The appts. includes a vessel divided into two compartments (a,b) by a filter, e.g. a filter paper, and pipes fitted with solenoid valves feed gas at a controllable pressure into compartments (a,b). The gas may be at 3-5 millibars (mb) and/or the gas pressure in the upper compartment may be 100-300 mb. The filter paper pref. rests on a perforated plate in which the holes prevent liq. entering the lower compartment (b) when the latter is pressurised. The solenoid valves pref. trigger a timer, and a meter which stops the timer when a given %, e.g. 80% of the vol. of the liq. has been filtered. Used, esp. in industries using large scale filtration of suspensions, to determine physico-chemical properties e.g. of asbestos-cement suspensions.
