Extractor for removing cast metal tubes from moulds - esp. for removing very hot cast iron pipe from centrifugal casting mould

The extractor can be driven along its axis, which is coaxial with the mould, and is provided with calmping jaws driven radially outwards to grip the bore of the cast tube, and the jaws are located in two separate radial planes (P, Q) of the extractor. A single source of pressurised fluid is pref. employed to actuate all the jaws. The pref. extractor consists of a tubular jib mounted on a wagon which can be driven towards or away from the mould; and the jib carries ten levers, each fitted with a clamping jaw. In the jib are ten radial pistons forced outwards by pressurised fluid to push the jaws onto the bore of the cast tube; and each lever is pref. spring loaded so it is automatically retracted when the fluid pressure is released. Used esp. to increase prodn. and to conserve thermal energy, i.e. the cast pipe is still very hot when placed in a heat treatment furnacE, so energy consumption is reduced.
