The sequencer has a series of cams, or a punched card, controlled by an electronic timer, with a display of the remaining time for each of the successive sequences. Potentiometers set the timing of each portion of the sequence. The electromechanical programmer, the timer and the potentiometers comprise independent modules electrically coupled together in various ways, to obtain a specific application. Pref. the cycle of sequences need not be purely a function of time, but it can also be a function of press., temp. or some other physical parameter which can be monitored electrically.
