Sand-filled resin coatings for agricultural soft wood stakes - to obtain durability at less cost than use of rot-resistant timbers

Softwood pegs or stakes are protected from damp by impregnation and coating with a layer of a mixture of resin and sand. Pref. the wood has an unplaned, fibrous surface texture of square or rectangular section with rounded edges and is treated with a mixt. contg. 10 pts. wt. resin (specifically RTM-'Uracure M.614') and 30 pts. wt. sand (specifically RTM 'Sika'). Pref. the dressing is applied in four stages, each allowed to set over 3-4 hr. at ambient temperatures, before treating another face, and allowed to harden further to resist the knocks and abrasions of being driven into the ground. For agricultural applications for which untreated softwoods are too short lived and hardwoods too expensive.
