The horizontal submerged base carrying a number of hydrophones constitutes a listening post for under water use, the assembly takes up a small volume when closed to allow it to be jettisoned into the sea when it opens for use. A central body is suspended by a cable from a float to which it is electrically connected. The body contains a sealed tube containing the electronic circuits powered from a battery initiated by the sea water. A connecting cable extends from this assembly to a base containing a magnetic compass to provide orientation signals. The base supports two horizontal arms diametrically opposite and comprising telescopic segments. Hydrophones are contained in these tubes and are connected to the electronic circuits.
