PURPOSE:To enhance the purity of simple substance sulfur solids and save the heat soruce for desulfurization treatment by treating the gas contg. simple substance sulfur vapor with gamma-alumina balls prior to cooling and condensing of the same and making use of the gamma-alumina balls of high temperatures as an SO2-desorbing heat source. CONSTITUTION:The stack gas from a boiler 1 is conducted to an adsorption tower 2, where it is adsorbed and removed of SO2. The temp. in the tower 2 is kept at the same temp. as that of the stack gas. The adsorbent having adsorbed SO2 in the tower 2 is delivered to a desorption tower 3, and the concd. 2 gaseous SO2 separated there is sent to a reducer 4. Here, it is converted to a gas contg. simple substance sulfur vapor and this gas is conducted to a cyclone type dust remover 5, where it is removed of coarse dusts. Thence, it is conducted into a moving type dust remover 6 packed with gamma-alumina (about 2mm.phi), where it is removed of fly ashes, thence in a cooling condenser 7, the simple substance sulfur solids of high purity are obtained. The gamma-alumina used for dust removal is removed of fly ashes in a dust separator 9, and this high-temp. gamma-alumina is sent into the desorption tower 3, where it is utilized as a heat soruce, after which it is again returned into the dust remover 6 via the separator 10.
