PURPOSE:To improve work precision without increasing the memory capacity of CPU by cutting a linearly interpolatable part linearly and an arc-interpolatable part in an arc shape. CONSTITUTION:Three of sampled points P1, P2-P6 on curved line C, e.g. P1, P4 and P6 are selected and a check on whether those three points can be interpolated linearly is made. When segment P4 is on P1P6 or within the range of an allowable error, the linear interpolation is assumed to be possible and P2, P3 and P5 are further checked. If all points can be interpolated linearly, the section between P1 and P6 is cut by segment P1P6. If the linear interpolation is impossible, on the other hand, a check on whether interpolation is possible along arc P1P4P6 is made in the same method and when so, cutting is done along the arc. If the interpolation is impossible, P1-P6 are divided into the linear interpolation section and arc interpolation section and the cutting is done. Thus, the work precision can be improved without increasing the memory capacity.
