The driving device has a driving belt (3) with metal transverse elements which has a trapezoidal cross-sectional profile and runs between pairs of tapered metal belt pulleys (1, 2). The spacing of the belt pulleys (1, 2) is variable. The lateral end faces of the transverse elements of the belt (3) and/or the surface areas of the belt pulleys which come into contact with the transverse elements during operation have a porous structure. The thickness of the porous surface layer is at least 1/2 mm. The porous surface prevents the formation of an oil film at the points of contact between the belt and the belt pulleys, which could lead to unwanted slip. This driving device is preferably used as a power transmission with a variable transmission ratio. IMAGE
