Solar heating system incorporating heat pump - has variable cross=section of solar panel flow channel filled with heat transfer medium

The system uses a solar panel through which a heat transfer medium is passed and a heat pump for removal of heat from the latter. The system also includes a circulation pump which ensures filling of the entire cross-section of the flow channel through the solar panel during operation of the heat pump or only partial filling of the flow channel in dependence on the level of the received solar radiation. The remaining space within the flow channel in the latter case is filled with air or vapour from the heat transfer medium. This provides a thermally insulating layer between the latter and the wall of the flow channel in contact with the ambient air, during operation of the heat pump.
