Accumulator battery plates of large surface area - are made by stamping fine corrugations on both sides of lead strip

The system is used for mfr. of plates of large surface area used in accumulator batteries. A long, thin strip of lead is passed through a stamping machine which forms corrugations on both sides in selected areas. The corrugations are of small size but greatly increase the available surface area. There is a second machine which cuts out complete plates from the strip. The corrugated areas are square or rectangular. The finished plates have a plain border (30) round the corrugated area (28) and a tab (32) for the connection of conductors. The ribbed profile (28) is produced in the form of uniform parallel strips.
