New salts of mefenamic acid (I) and niflumic acid (II) are those with organic bases, pref. diethylamine, triethanolamine and triethylamine. The new salts may be prepd. by dissolving (I) or (II) in an equivalent amt. or an excess of the organic base and precipitating the resulting salt with a solvent such as hexane. Alternatively, (I) or (II) can be dissolved in an organic solvent such as Et20 and the solution treated with excess organic base. The salts of (I) and (II) are well absorbed when applied cutaneously, orally and rectally.
