Fuel injection pump for Diesel IC engine - has double sided cams for direct injection with small buffer cylinder for start of injection

The pump has a shaft with double sided cams (1) each of which drives a spring loaded plunger (4) in a cylinder. A rotating distributor (3) is driven by gears from the shaft. On each stroke the main quantity of fuel is delivered directly through the distributor. The distributor has an outlet to each engine cylinder and controls the end of injection. When injection ends a further small quantity of fuel is pumped by the plunger into a buffer cylinder (2) which contains a spring loaded piston. At the beginning of the next stroke this quantity is delivered to the distributor through a throttling orifice (7).
