The cover for sports pitches, esp. tennis courts, which are liable to frost during wintertime, is in the form of a plastics sheet (1). The edges of the sheet are in the form of a tubular rim (3) stuck or welded on during mfr. which can be filled with water or compressed air to form a low trough which is filled with water (7). The amount of water in the trough is selected so that no ice is allowed to form on the bottom of the trough. The tubular rims (3) have at least one valve for filling or emptying the contents of the tube. Salt or other frost protection agent is contained in the trough water. The plastics sheeting contains substances making it insensitive to light.
