A method for the crack-free machining of heat-treated metallic continuous castings is shown in which the defects, for example of a rolling billet, are individually detected and stored and in which the parameters of this defect during subsequent peeling treatment, are converted into control signals for a peeling machine. Furthermore, it is proposed to carry out the actual peeling treatment by means of a cutting method with the use of defined cutters without considerable wear of the cutting edges, in contrast to the grinding customary hitherto. The recording of defects and the storage are completed before the surface defects are removed. IMAGE
