Prevention or removal of scar tissue with oleum hyoscyami - applied in a composition for topical application

To prevent or remove scar tissue, existing scar tissue or a wound or surgical incision is treated topically with oleum hyoscyami. The latter is preferably formulated in a claimed compsn. comprising the active ingredient and a suitable carrier or excipient. The oleum hyoscyami may be applied prophylactically or post-operatively for 2-3 weeks after the injury or surgical treatment. It can also be applied to hypertropic keloid-forming scar tissues after surgical operations e.g. skin transplants, and also in the case of burns and wounds. The prepn. of oleum hyposcyami is described in Pharmacopoeia Helvetia, VI, pages 391. Suitable compsns. include creams, emulsions, gels and aerosols, generally containing 10-60 wt.% of the active ingredient, pref. 50%.
