Organic sludge and liq manure are decomposed by treatment with a cytolytic Bacillus subtilis-derived enzyme compsn., contg protease, amylase and other enzymes in addn to beat- glucanase, in the presence of a complexing cpd. The prod is sped into a stabilised odourless sludge and a liq phase. Enzyme quantity used is 3-10 mg/l. The complexing cpd is esp di-Na di-hydrogen diamine tetraacetate used in a proportion corresp to 36-70% of enzyme quantity used. Incubation pref takes 0.5-15 hrs at 10-50 deg C and pH 5-8.% Complexing cpd addn reduces enzyme requirement to about 90%. Energy consumption is reduced.
