The slide valve (1), forming part of a pneumatic or hydraulic system has an inner slide (4) with a separate piston (8, 8a) at each end which actuates a respective valve (13, 13a). A constant pressure is applied to the inlet (23) and is transmitted to the chambers (10, 10a). When a signal pressure, equal to the pressure in the chambers is applied to the inlet (11a) the inner slide (4) and pistons move to the right and the valve (13a) is opened causing the pressure in the chamber (10a) to fall. If a pressure is next applied to the other inlet (11) the slide (4) is pushed to the left because of the low pressure in the chamber (10a).
