The support rollers are mounted in bearing blocks which slide in vertical guides of the mill frame. The upper support roller is supported by a spindle whilst the lower support roller is pressed upwards by a piston working in a hydraulic cylinder. Any side loads generated by the rolling process and transmitted through the roller are resisted by a hydrostatic bearing which surrounds the piston.
