The casing for a maximum and minimum thermometer comprises a base plate (1) with two side walls (3, 4) standing up from the base. A cover is made to fit over the base with sides which slide down over the base sides forming a box lid. Small pegs (7) on the outside of the base side walls engage in holes in the lid side walls. Internal partitions (13, 14, 15) divide up the space inside the housing. Those extending across the space at right angles to the side walls form support for the two glass tubes of the thermometer. Inner partitions lying parallel to the side walls (15a, 15b) provide support for the calibrated scales which lie on either side of the housing parallel to the thermometer tubes. The cover is open in the middle part but encloses the two ends of the thermometer. The top of the base plate is extended to include a tab by which the thermometer may be hung up.
