Thermoplastic supports for locating inserts in blow moulded containers - to control insert location without ancillary openings in moulded fuel tanks etc.

Hollow blow-moulded containers are provided with prefabricated inserts by supporting the insert in the open mould using struts or cords made of material which is fusible and compatible with the material used for the body of the container. The process is suitable for mfr. of e.g. polyolefin fuel tanks requiring an internal filter (Pj) to protect the fuel outlet, esp. where the position of the insert has to be anchored relative to the moulding wall. The support becomes integral with the moulding wall to avoid the presence of an interface which could leak, unlike tanks containing an insert fitted through a hole cut in the wall of the moulding and requiring a cover to be subsequently secured over the hole.
