Desorption of polar cpds. absorbed on molecular sieve - where sieve is heated by microwaves and simultaneously scrubbed with gas, used esp. to remove water or hydrogen sulphide from sieve
The sieve is heated by exposure to microwaves, and is simultaneously swept or scrubbed by a gas at a lower temp. than the sieve. The gas is pref. inert, and is esp. nitrogen or helium. The process is pref. used to remove water or H2S from a molecular sieve. The temp. of the sieve is pref. controlled by the formula: Tm=Tgs+(Tgs-Tge)K; where Tm is the temp. of the sieve at a given time; Tge is the inlet temp., and Tgs the exit temp. of the gas fed through the sieve; and K is a constant depending on the gas used and the type of sieve. Overheating, and thus damage to the sieve, is prevented.
