The crank wheel (5) with connecting rod (7) converts input rotation into reciprocal linear motion, incorporates amplitude adjustment, and may be used to drive the thermal comb of a printer. The trailing end of the rod connects (14) to an inclined extended crank-pin (11), and the inclination of the pin (11) is varied to adjust the amplitude of slide (9) movement. The pin may comprise a telescopic lever which extends from the crank wheel hinge (41) to a ball-joint fulcrum (11a). The latter centres on an extension of the wheel (5) axis (3). The ball is located by a screw (12) rotated to adjust the pin length and its inclination, the trailing end of the rod having a nominally fixed axial (3) relationship with the wheel.
