TREATMENT OF HEMOLYTIC STREPTOCOCCUS HAVING ANTITUMOR ACTIVITY

PURPOSE:The cultivatd cells of Streptococcus pyogenes having antitumor activity are treated with a monohydric alcohol to produce an antitumor agent of high safety and high antitumor activity through simple operations. CONSTITUTION:The cultivated cells os Streptococcus pyogenes having antitumor activity are treated with a nonohydric alcohol, preferably ethanol or isopropanol to produce the objective antitutmor agent with increased antitumor activity, not including the living cells. The temperature of the alcohol treatment is preferably 0- 45 deg.C and additional treatment with penicillin increases the antitumor activity. The penicillin treatment is effected by adding penicillin to the suspension of the alcohol treated produce in an aqueous medium such as saline solution, keeping the suspension at 20-50 deg.C and freeze-drying it.
