PURPOSE:To realize a low-cost and assured pause device, by using a quick wind/ rewind solenoid device also for a solenoid device of the pause mode. CONSTITUTION:A solenoid 14 gives the sliding to a head attaching plate 5 at a prescribed position during the recording and reproducing, and a solneoid 44 moves both a brake component 35 and a pauseoperating member 20. In the pause working mode, a solenoid 24 is first driven to move a brake plate 35. Thus the plate 35 is set apart from turntables 23 and 24 that take up and roll out a cassette tape, and at the same time the member 20 is moved. As a result, a pinch roller 10 is set at its queuing position. Then the solenoid 14 is driven after a prescribed time, and the plate 5 is kept at the recording and reproducing position.
