The automatic handling unit for receiving and discharging two rows of e.g. freshly pressed slabs has a reception table (9) for one row, the table being movable vertically using a swivel unit (3, 4). The reception table (17) for the second row may be coupled with a mechanical drive or pressure medium drive which can be moved up over the lowered reception table for the first row and back again. The first row reception table (9) is guided by bolts in vertical sleeves and is moved vertically by a pressure medium drive. The second reception table (17) has a crank drive (25, 26, 27). The design ensures that damage does not occur to the visible slab surfaces during its handling.
