Water travelling through the rinsing tanks is fed into an electroplating tank, which is fitted with a fume extn. tower and a suction fan. In the tower is a packing of rings or balls located under spraying nozzles, via which liq. pumped from tank flows downwards through the packing in countercurrent to the fumes. The height of the liq. in tank is controlled by adjusting the pump and/or the suction fan. In the pref. plant, a controller is fed with signals representing the actual height and temp. of the liq. in tank, and adjusts both the pump and the fan. Overall result is saving of chemicals trapped in the fumes, and also cooling of liq. in tank.
