Heating road surface in cold weather - involves sunken heat exchangers using earth heat to warm fluid in pipes

Traffic delays caused by ice and snow can be eliminated by a process for heating the road surface to a temp. above freezing point. The surface has a pref. liq. medium flowing through it, and heat from the earth is used for warming this. The heating process pref. involves introducing pipes into the road surface, while rod-type heat exchangers are provided near the roadway, in the ground, pipes and exchangers being interconnected in a circuit. This can be effected at comparatively low cost, to keep roads passable at all times in winter.
